Web Expert Says Small Businesses Should Get a Web Site

February 18, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: Get a Web Site

In Today’s Slowing Economy, There’s No Excuse for Any Small Business Not to Have a Web Site

Businesses Should Avoid Cutting Back Online Marketing Efforts During a Recession

SANDPOINT, Idaho — When the economy heads into the dumpster, many small businesses make the mistake of cutting back their marketing efforts, including postponing new Web site launches or updates. Susan Daffron of Logical Expressions, Inc. offers several reasons why in today’s economy businesses should consider stepping up their online efforts, inspired by her book “Web Business Success: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Web Sites That Work” (ISBN: 978-0-9749245-0-2; LCCN-2006909228).

Here are a few reasons smart small business owners should consider updating or launching a Web site, even during a recession:

1. To remain competitive. People use the Internet instead of the yellow pages. If searchers don’t find a business online, they certainly will find its competitors. A well-designed, informative Web site reflects well on a company. Plus, in a bad economy, selling is more difficult, so smart businesses can actually get ahead during down times by working on testing and perfecting their marketing messages.

2. To showcase expertise. The Web isn’t limited to product-based businesses; service businesses also should have Web sites. A good Web site establishes credibility and introduces the business to potential clients. The old adage that people buy from someone they know is true.

3. To sell products. Adding ecommerce into the sales mix opens up an entirely new revenue stream. With a Web site, small businesses can reach customers outside of their local area, who would not otherwise be accessible.

4. To save money. A Web site can lower customer service costs and be used to automate repetitive processes. Including a simple frequently asked questions (FAQ) page can reduce repetitive phone calls from customers asking simple questions such as location and hours of operation.

Instead of taking a “Chicken Little” approach, lamenting the downturn, and curtailing all spending, small business owners should stop and examine the return on investment for all of their marketing activities. When it comes to getting a Web site online, the cost of entry is extremely low. Daffron points out that “the cost of creating or updating a Web site pales in comparison to the cost of not having a good Web site at all.”

New Report Offers 101 Fundraising Ideas for Humane Groups

February 18, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: 101 Fundraising Ideas

New Report Offers 101 Fundraising Ideas for Rescues, Animal Shelters, and Humane Organizations

Available Free from the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP)

SANDPOINT, Idaho — A new report from the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) called “101 Fundraising Ideas for Rescues, Shelters and Humane Organizations” is available free from the association’s Web site at http://www.naprp.com.

Compiled from news reports, magazine articles, and other sources, the 101 Fundraising Ideas report details some of the most imaginative and interesting ideas shelters and humane groups have used to help raise money for animals. Those who sign up to receive the report are emailed one idea per/day, which include information on creative fundraisers like:

1. How one humane society laughed themselves all the way to $43,000 with a fun comedy fundraiser.

2. How working with restaurants can net big profits, like the shelter that told everyone to “Eat for Pete.” (As it turns out, Pete is a shelter dog who gets far more than 15 minutes of fame.)

3. How a humane group can creatively ask for money using a simple letter writing campaign instead of a bake sale, picnic or dog walk. One SPCA made $980 the first day, they used this tip.

4. How to use the power of “small change” to raise money. (A few pennies can turn into a lot of dough.)

5. How to use nothing more than card stock and a laser printer to create everything for a quick and easy fundraiser.

6. And 96 more ideas.

Each idea also includes a scale that rates the level of difficulty, planning time, up front costs, and personnel the idea requires. In addition, the final email includes an attached PDF with all the tips that can be saved or printed out for later reference.

The National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) provides tools, forms, graphics, and information to help those people working with dog or cat rescue, humane societies, or animal shelters raise more money, provide adopter education, and save more pets lives. For more information about the NAPRP, visit the web site at http://www.naprp.com.

Press Release: Sites Accepting Ads

Award-Winning Content Web Sites Now Accepting Outside Advertising

Space Available on Targeted Sites About Computing and Pet Care

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Logical Expressions, Inc. is now accepting outside advertising on its award-winning content sites about computing and adopted pet care. The three sites, ComputorCompanion.com, LogicalTips.com, and Pet-Tails.com, contain unique article content and now feature a new ad rotation system that makes it possible to track impressions and clicks that can be reported to advertisers.

ComputorCompanion.com has been online and continuously updated since 1999, with more than 300 unique articles on computer topics. The site receives approximately 1.2 million unique visitors per year most of whom arrive through search engine queries. The site has received accolades from the BBC, Tribune Media Services, and others.

LogicalTips.com has been online since 2001 and features more than 650 articles on computer-related topics that have been spidered extensively by search engines. The site was named a “Hot Site” by USA Today.

Pet-Tails has been online and continuously updated since 2000. The 360 unique articles on pet care have been linked to from many authoritative pet sites and the Library of Congress.

All three sites have a Google Page Rank of 5 and have been search engine optimized. Most visitors arrive at the sites because they have done a search looking for solutions to problems. Publisher and site owner Susan Daffron says, “almost every day, we receive feedback from visitors who are delighted with the useful answers they have received from our articles.”

The publisher of the sites Logical Expressions, Inc. has had its own “house ads” on the sites for years. Recently, the company implemented a new ad rotation system on the sites and has been testing it for the last 6 months with its own ads. Now that testing is complete, Logical Expressions has decided to open up advertising to outside advertisers as well.

The available ads are 120 pixels wide and 180-240 pixels high and rotate on the right-hand side of all the article pages. Advertising starts at $60 per month and depends on the site and number of placements desired. All advertising is subject to approval by the publisher and must relate to the content of the Web site.

For more information, click the “Advertise” link on any of the three content sites ( or use these links: ComputorCompanion, LogicalTips, or Pet-Tails).

New Pet Rescue Association Offers Tools and Information for Humane Orgs

February 1, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: New Pet Rescue Association

New Pet Rescue Association Offers Tools and Information to Help Humane Organizations Save More Lives

Members Receive Books and Access to Downloads and Teleseminars

SANDPOINT, Idaho — A new association called the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) provides tools, forms, graphics, and information to help those who are working with dog or cat rescue, humane societies, or animal shelters raise more money, provide adopter education, and save more pets lives.

Members receive two printed books on adopted pet care, more than 100 customizable pet education articles, fundraising ideas and worksheets, templates for common promotional materials such as newsletters, brochures, business cards, and Web sites, and a number of administrative forms.

The new association is in its “prelaunch” phase until March 20 when the membership area of the Web site (http://www.naprp.com) goes online. During the prelaunch, people can apply for membership and join at a special introductory price. The books are mailed to members immediately, and when the private membership area of the NAPRP Web site is complete on March 20, members will be able to log in and access a private discussion area and all of the downloadable materials. Members will also be able to attend teleseminars with experts on topics ranging from volunteer management to humane pet care.

President and Founder Susan Daffron says “I started the NAPRP after years of volunteering at an animal shelter and a spay-neuter clinic. Even though the humane community has made great strides in recent years, there remains a lot of division and “reinventing of the wheel” in our efforts to solve the same problems year after year.”

With the NAPRP, Daffron is attempting to bring together tools, documents, and links to the best resources from many different humane organizations into one place. At most rescues and shelters, personnel are busy caring for the animals, and in many cases don’t have the time to find information, develop forms, or create good promotional materials.

For more information about the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals, visit the web site at http://www.naprp.com. Visitors can sign up to receive “101 Fundraising Ideas for Rescues, Shelters and Humane Organizations” via email.

Dazzling Dogs Writing Contest

February 1, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: Writing Contest

New Dazzling Dogs Writing Contest Lets Writers Tell Their Best Dog Stories

Authors Can Enter to Win Software and Publication in New Book

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Whether they want to create a “shaggy dog story” or just a heartwarming tale, writers have a new opportunity to tell the world about their favorite dogs, thanks to a new writing contest from Logical Expressions, Inc. Dogs can be silly, inspiring, goofy, loyal, heartwarming, and fun, and almost all dog lovers have a story to tell about their favorite canine.

The contest is being held in honor of Freelance Writers week, but it is open to professional and amateur writers, freelance or not. Essays can be about “bad” dogs like Marley (of “Marley and Me” fame), heroic like Lassie, or just a great “best friend” story. Entrants are eligible to win free writing software and the opportunity to be published in a book.

Book authors and publishers Susan Daffron and James Byrd of Logical Expressions, Inc. will select approximately 20 winners from the entries received. Authors of the selected stories receive a free license for Logical Expressions IdeaWeaver writing software (a $50 value) and a free copy of the book of dog stories when it is published.

Like other pet books from Logical Expressions (Happy Hound and Happy Tabby), the book of essays will be offered to animal shelters and humane groups at a discount for use as a fundraising tool. One story will also be selected as a Grand Prize winner. This author receives the other prizes, a $50 Grand Prize, and will be written up as a case study on the IdeaWeaver Web site with a link back to the author’s site (if available).

Although the contest does not have an entry fee, participants must download the free trial of IdeaWeaver and follow the instructions on the contest page to enter. Entries must be 800-1500 words and received by March 31, 2008.

“IdeaWeaver” is free to try for 30 days. A license costs $49.95. The free trial download of the software is available at: www.IdeaWeaverSoftware.com. The site features a free “getting started” video, case studies, and a free e-course called “Get Unstuck! 15 Ways to Jumpstart Your Creativity, Get Organized, and Finish Your Writing Project.” Click the Writing Contest link for the Dazzling Dogs contest entry instructions and rules.
