Pet Radio Show Features Adoptable Pets from Humane and Rescue Groups

May 1, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: Take Me Home Radio Show

New Pet Radio Show Showcases Adoptable Pets from Humane Societies and Rescue Groups

Founder of National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) Susan Daffron Hosts Show

SANDPOINT, Idaho — A new weekly online radio show about pet adoption and pet rescue called “Take Me Home” has debuted on Pet Life Radio. The host of the show Susan Daffron is the Founder and President of the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (www.NAPRP.com). Every week on “Take Me Home,” she talks to guests from animal shelters and rescue groups about pets that may have been overlooked for one reason or another, but still need a loving “forever home.”

The format of the show is designed to give people involved in rescuing homeless animals an opportunity to showcase one of their adoptable pets. The Take Me Home show shines the light on these “second chance” pets and shares each animal’s personality, quirks, and story with listeners. Because each pet is an individual, Daffron focuses her questions on the pet’s special needs and offers educational information to help adopters make good decisions along with tips for dealing with common problems.

The half hour long radio show gives people from rescue groups a chance to go into detail about what an animal is really like on a day-to-day basis. In fact, Lucy a black Labrador retriever in Idaho that was featured on the first show has already been adopted.

Rescue groups are encouraged to contact Daffron about being a guest on the show. Interested humane organizations can contact her using the contact form at The National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) Web site at http://www.naprp.com. (Click the Contact link on the right side.) The association provides tools, forms, graphics, and information to help those working in rescue, humane societies, or animal shelters raise more money, provide adopter education, and save more pets lives. Visitors to the site also can sign up to receive a complimentary report called “101 Fundraising Ideas for Rescues, Shelters, and Humane Organizations.”

Vegan Cookbook Author Gives Answers to Typical New Vegan Questions

May 1, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: Vegan Questions

Tips for Answering Three Questions You Inevitably Hear When You Go Vegan

Author of Vegan Success Cookbook Offers Suggestions

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Those who adopt vegan eating habits for health or ethical reasons should be ready for criticism. Susan Daffron of Logical Expressions, Inc. became a vegan in 1994 and points out that many people will not exactly embrace your new eating habits. She offers a few tips for dealing with a few comments and questions that new vegans inevitably hear, inspired by her book “Vegan Success: Scrumptious, Healthy Vegan Recipes for Busy People” (ISBN: 978-0-9749245-1-9; LCCN-2006907834).

1. What do you eat? People don’t seem to realize that many conventional dishes are actually vegetarian. Even completely vegan food doesn’t have to be “weird.” For example, many picnic food dishes are actually vegan. Salads and breads are obvious choices, but other options exist too. Daffron says, “when we go to summer pot-luck parties, we make a rice, spinach, and garbanzo bean dish that is well-received, even by our meat-eating friends. It’s a simple one-pot dish that we can whip up in about a half an hour.”

2. How do you get enough protein? Daffron says, “Getting enough protein when you are vegetarian is extremely easy, yet people always ask me essentially why I haven’t died from a protein deficiency.” Many plant foods are high in protein, including beans, nuts, grains and various vegetables, such as broccoli and potatoes. Even carrots contain protein. Tofu contains 10-20 grams of protein and the wide range of soy foods available now is an easy way to incorporate plenty of protein in your diet.

3. You need to eat meat or you won’t be healthy. Countless studies have proven this criticism simply isn’t true, yet many people seem threatened by those who don’t eat meat. Vegans do have to eat a wide variety of foods to be healthy and should take a B12 supplement or multivitamin. The more different vegetables and grains you eat, the easier it is to maintain good health. Daffron says, “When we go to the grocery store, we spend a lot of time in the produce area; we simply don’t visit about 3/4 of the standard grocery store aisles, which are all filled with heavily processed convenience foods.”

Adopting vegan eating habits isn’t always easy, but Daffron says she has never regretted her decision to stop eating animal products. She says, “If being vegan makes you feel better, listen to your body and ignore what other people may say.”

Pet Rescue Assocation Offers Documents and Forms for Humane Groups

March 18, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: Pet Rescue Assocation Offers Documents and Forms

New Pet Rescue Association Offers More than 160 Customizable Forms, Pet Care Articles, and Information to Help Humane Professionals Save More Animals

Information Available from the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP)

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Those doing the work of saving homeless animals often lack two things: money and time. A new association called the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) helps people dedicated to pet rescue work save time by offering them completely customizable pet care articles, tutorials for common business and marketing documents, artwork, and information.

Like any business entity, humane organizations are faced with the task of getting the word out about their group. Many use newsletters and other outreach to promote their animals, the benefits of adoption, and provide adoptive pet care information. All this material takes time to create. Time many humane workers simply don’t have.

As every writer or graphic designer knows, it’s much easier to edit an existing document or file than it is to create one from scratch. The founder of NAPRP Susan Daffron says, “When I worked at an animal shelter, there was a constant need for pet care information to hand out to adopters and artwork for fundraisers we could pull off quickly and easily.”

Personnel at some humane groups often don’t have the expertise to create graphics or write articles. However, by joining the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals, they can gain access to more than 160 downloadable pet care articles, forms, artwork, tutorials and other files that are designed to help them get more done in less time. Because they can spend less time dealing with marketing and administration busywork, rescuers can spend more time tending to the animals in their care.

The National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) also offers members informational teleseminars, newsletters, wiki, and a discussion forum where people can get answers to their questions about running their organization or raising more money. The site also offers a complimentary report called “101 Fundraising Ideas for Rescues, Shelters, and Humane Organizations” which people can sign up to receive via email.

For more information about the NAPRP, visit the web site at http://www.naprp.com.

Pet Care Book Author Offers Tips for Tabby Toenail Trimming

March 1, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: Tabby Toenail Trimming

Tips for Trimming Terrible Tabby Toenails Without Trauma

Author Provides Tips Based on “Happy Tabby: Develop a Great Relationship with Your Adopted Cat or Kitten”

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Trimming your cat’s claws doesn’t have to be an exercise in frustration according to Susan Daffron of Logical Expressions, Inc. In fact, contrary to popular belief, it really isn’t difficult to trim those terrible tabby toenails without trauma. Daffron offers a few simple tips for safe trimming based on her book “Happy Tabby: Develop a Great Relationship with Your Adopted Cat or Kitten” (ISBN: 978-0-9749245-3-3; LCCN-2007906436).

1. Get clippers designed for trimming cat claws, instead of trying to use human fingernail clippers. The most common type of kitty toenail trimmers look like small short scissors.

2. Some cats don’t worry about having their claws trimmed. In this case, hold the cat in your lap. Grasp a paw, and with your thumb, press gently on the middle of the paw to extend the claws. With the other hand, quickly and carefully trim each nail. Don’t forget the “thumbs.”

3. If the cat is uncooperative, find a friend to hold the cat. Sometimes it can help to wrap the cat in a towel. Most cats can be restrained if you grasp the scruff of the cat’s neck. If the cat is extremely resistant, “cat bags” are available. These zip closed to confine the cat’s body so just the head is sticking out. In this case, unzip part of the bag to access a single paw at a time.

4. Be sure to clip off only the end of the nail. Cats have nerve endings and blood vessels inside their nails called a quick. If your cat has light colored nails, the quick looks like a dark line. Avoid accidently clipping the quick. Doing so can hurt the cat and the quick will bleed. If this happens, calmly apply pressure to the tip of the nail or dab on some styptic powder.

Daffron also is the founder of the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (www.naprp.com) and points out that many cats are brought into animal shelters because they have clawed furniture. She says, “Clawing is a natural feline behavior, but cats with short nails can’t do much damage. Regular nail trimming is a simple way to keep both you and your cat happy.”
