Animal Rescue and Humane Groups Invited to Free Marketing Q and A Calls

November 18, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: Take a Bite Out of the Recession Calls

Animal Rescue and Humane Groups Invited to Free “Take a Bite Out of the Recession” Marketing Q&A Calls

Calls hosted by Susan Daffron the Founder of the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP)

SANDPOINT, Idaho – The National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals is sponsoring weekly question and answer calls to help animal rescue groups deal with current economic conditions. These “Take a BITE Out of the Recession” calls feature tips and advice to help animal shelters and humane groups get the word out about their organizations, raise more money, and increase adoptions.

Founder and President of the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (www.NAPRP.com), Susan Daffron hosts the free calls. Daffron is the author of 11 books, including two books on caring for adopted pets. Every week, she will be on hand to discuss marketing and promotion topics like taking advantage of low-cost online promotion, Web sites, and fundraising ideas.

Daffron says, “I know people who work with animals don’t like to think that they are in business, but a non-profit is a business. If you don’t get donations and adoption fees, you have no money and you shut down. Non-profit doesn’t mean no income. No income equals bankruptcy and then you can’t help any animals at all.”

In addition to founding the association, Daffron is also the President of Logical Expressions, Inc a book and software publishing company based in Sandpoint, Idaho. A recognized expert on Web, editorial, design, and publishing topics, in addition to her books Susan has written more than 70 national magazine articles, 200 newspaper articles, and 1200 online articles. She also is the co-creator of a writing and creativity software program called IdeaWeaver.

The free hour-long calls are held Friday mornings at 10 am (Pacific time) over a conference call line. Calls are held in a group format, so participants can learn from each other.

The call-in number for the “Take a BITE Out of the Recession” calls is emailed to subscribers of the free weekly National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) newsletter at http://www.naprp.com. The newsletter is an add-on bonus for those who sign up to receive the free “101 Fundraising Ideas for Rescues, Shelters, and Humane Organizations.”

Pet Adoption Expert Offers Tips for Selecting Obama Family’s Puppy

November 18, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: Selecting the Obama Family’s First Puppy – Pet Adoption Expert Offers Tips

Selecting the Obama Family’s First Puppy – Pet Adoption Expert Offers Tips

Susan Daffron the Founder of the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals (NAPRP) and Author of Happy Hound Gives Tips for Choosing the President-Elect’s New Shelter Puppy

SANDPOINT, Idaho –Unlike the presidency, which lasts for only four years, adopting a dog is for life. Susan Daffron, the founder of the National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals and the author of “Happy Hound: Develop a Great Relationship with Your Adopted Dog or Puppy” (www.HappyHoundBook.com) has a few tips for how the Obama family can make good choices regarding the new “First Puppy.”

1. Kids need to learn the responsibilities involved in pet ownership. Malia and Sasha should be involved caring for the new puppy with simple tasks such as regular brushing and feeding. The girls need to understand the realities of housebreaking a puppy. (Accidents are inevitable and the puppy will have to go outside innumerable times!) The two most important elements of successful dog ownership are time and patience. Given their complex life, the Obama family will need to work together and talk about how the new dog will fit in with life at the White House.

2. Even if the Obamas opt to adopt a mixed breed, it helps to know the characteristics of the breeds that make up the mutt. Breed information is available from books, Web sites, and animal shelters. The Obamas need to consider the dog’s activity level. For example, a border collie (or mix) needs more exercise than a Bassett hound.

3. Although learning about dog breeds can help, people often assume a breed of dog is destined to behave a certain way. Although genetics come into play, stereotyping breed behavior can result in a bad dog-owner match. Dogs are individuals. Some people like exuberant outgoing dogs, but others prefer dogs with more reserved, relaxed behavior. The Obamas should select a puppy with a compatible personality. Additionally, this puppy will be one of the most photographed animals in the world, so he or she should be extremely well socialized and friendly toward people.

4. The Obamas also must take Malia’s allergies into account. Dogs with short hair, such as greyhounds and whippets, “non-shedding” coats such as poodles, or silky coats like certain terriers are often better for allergy sufferers. These coat characteristics occur in mixes of these breeds as well. Bathing the dog frequently can help reduce the number of allergens.

Daffron says, “Adopting a dog is a big commitment, but so is being President of the United States. I’m confident that with a little understanding and TLC, the Obamas will be able to help their newly adopted shelter puppy feel comfortable and become a cherished part of the family. The Obamas have a great opportunity to be outstanding role models for other people who are considering the pet adoption option.”

New Business Startups in a Down Economy Surprising Trend

Press Release: Start Ups in Down Economy

Business Startups in a Down Economy: Starting a Business a Surprising Trend During Recessions

Logical Expressions Proof that Businesses Launched During an Economic Downturn Can Thrive

SANDPOINT, Idaho –The economy may be struggling, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad time to start a business. James Byrd and Susan Daffron of Logical Expressions are proof that with a little planning, businesses launched during an economic downturn can actually thrive.

These days, the victims of layoffs and the foreclosure crisis may consider starting an Internet business because of the low cost of entry. During the recession of 1994, James Byrd and Susan Daffron took that idea one step further. They started a business in order to move to a location with a lower cost of living and to enjoy a simpler lifestyle. Daffron says, “We call ourselves techno-homesteaders because we earn our living online from a remote location. Our business plan was also a life plan. By lowering our overhead costs, we didn’t need to earn as much money from our business than if we had stayed in Southern California.”

The couple’s story appeared in the August 2008 issue of Redbook magazine in an article called, “Trust Your Gut. Change Your Life” which chronicles the experiences of 5 people who trusted their instincts and realized their dreams. Byrd and Daffron’s story explains how they started a business to escape “cubicle hell” and city living to create a simpler more fulfilling life.

It may seem counter-intuitive to embark on a new business during a recession, but historically, many businesses have been started during down economic cycles. Hewlett Packard, Coors, Disney, Super 8 motels, and even Microsoft were all started during economic doldrums.

In 1994, Byrd and Daffron were living in California, which was particularly hard hit during the recession. Jobs were tight, layoffs were rampant, and real estate had crashed. During a mountain vacation trip, the couple realized that if they started their own business and telecommuted, they could leave Southern California and live anywhere. Two months later, they formed their company, Logical Expressions (https://www.logicalexpressions.com/).

During economic downturns like the one in the early 90s and today, many people don’t consider starting a new enterprise, but Byrd and Daffron are proof that it can work long-term. By moving to Idaho, the couple drastically lowered their living expenses because at the time the cost of housing in Idaho was far lower than it was in California. Working from home, strategically using technology, and driving infrequently also keeps their overhead low. As Daffron points out, “you only have one shot at life; do you really want to spend it in a cubicle?”

June 18, 2008 By Logical Expressions Staff

Press Release: AWE Founding Partner

Sandpoint, Idaho-based Entrepreneur Named Founding Partner and Web Development Expert at the International Association of Web Entrepreneurs

Susan Daffron AWE Founding Partner and Web Development Expert

SANDPOINT, Idaho — The President and Founder of the International Association of Web Entrepreneurs (AWE), Sheri McConnell recently invited three women to join the organization as Founding Partners. The new Founding Partners are Susan Daffron of Logical Expressions, Inc. Marilyn Schwader of Clarity of Vision, and Lisa Manyon of Write On Creative Writing Services.

Susan Daffron is the President of Logical Expressions, Inc. a book and software company based in Sandpoint, Idaho and the co-author of “Web Business Success: The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Web Sites That Work” (ISBN: 978-0-9749245-0-2; LCCN-2006909228). A discount on Web Business Success is one of the benefits AWE members receive when they join the organization. In addition to her role as an AWE Founding Partner, Daffron will also serve as the Web Development Expert

McConnell says, “I invited these three dynamic and progressive women to join the AWE as Founding Partners to further the association’s online growth and success. Susan’s technical experience and background in ecommerce and Web design will be a huge benefit to our members.”

Thanks to the Internet, Susan and her husband James Byrd have been able to operate their business from a remote location in the forests of northern Idaho since 1996. Their Web sites have received kudos from USA Today, Tribune Media Services, and the BBC. Susan has been the principal designer for all of Logical Expressions Web sites, and the company’s client Web sites as well. Daffron coded her first Web site by hand sometime in 1996, and has worked on everything from simple single-page sites to extremely large portal sites (200+ pages) along with data-driven sites and ecommerce stores.

Daffron says, “We are proof that you can operate a successful online business from almost anywhere. For years we worked over a 26.4 dial-up connection. Now we have satellite and cellular broadband (but keep the dial-up too, just in case). Because of the Internet, we’ve been able to live in and enjoy this beautiful area for the last 12 years.”

The International Association of Web Entrepreneurs is a membership-based organization, which offers access to teleseminars with online experts, discounts on Internet-related products, laser coaching, Q & A sessions, monthly telecoaching, a rolodex of online business and marketing resources, business building bonuses, updates on online marketing standard practices, and more.
