A Professionally Produced Eye-Catching Book Reflects Well on You

Many of our clients are publishers and authors. Susan Daffron has been laying out books and other long documents since 1990 or so. Back in 1994, she was laying out books that were printed "on demand" before anyone thought up the term print on demand (POD).

Susan's clean uncluttered style of design is ideal for books and also for other long-documents like magazines and newsletters. (You can see the wide range of publications and printed materials we've created for clients on our Client Books and Project Portfolio pages.)

We can help you with almost any aspect of book production. Our services range from strictly layout and cover design, to more complete packages that include editorial services and indexing. Or anything in between.

In fact, we've even helped a couple of clients redo books that were produced by vanity or traditional publishers that they opted to re-release themselves. If you already have a book, but aren't completely happy with certain aspects of it, we can help. We offer:

• Interior Design and Cover Layout - We use the latest publishing software to lay out your book, such as InDesign or Photoshop. In fact, we use the same software that is used to lay out most books, magazines, and newspapers. However, unlike many designers, we use PCs. We understand the file types and systems you use every day, so if you need artwork created, you won't get "oh but I have a Mac and don't know what you're talking about." (If you use a Mac, that's okay; we're Mac friendly too!)
• Editorial Services - Susan does a limited amount of developmental editing herself and works with a great team of copyeditors. (As the president of the Small Publishers Artists and Writers Network, she knows a lot of great editorial professionals!)
• Printing - We can work with the book printer you have selected already or help get you set up with the printer we use (Lightning Source). As long as the printer has decent print specifications or customer service folks we can talk to, we can work with them
• Marketing Materials - Need a sell-sheet for your book? Bookmarks? A speaker one sheet? Just ask. We can create materials that your marketing beyond the book.

How Does It Work?

Our goal is to make the process of getting your book done as easy as possible for you. First, we generally spend some time on the phone with you to find out about your business and your goals for the book. We'll ask a bunch of questions about the type of services you need and what information you already have or can provide, such as the book manuscript, logos, graphics, and other types of files we may need for the job.

For books, we usually divide the project into thirds. You pay 35% up front, 35% after design approval, and then 30% before we give you final files.

We do a custom quote for every design job, but these costs give you an idea of our rates. You can pay for your project using your credit card through our secure online shopping cart.

We do not do printing in house. If you don't have a printer already and want us to manage the printing process, we can help you get quotes from printers we have worked with in the past. All of this information is clearly laid out in the quotation, so you know what to expect.
